Each act of creation for me is a celebration of my gifts.

My paintings are alive with Spirit. They have a presence, an inner glow, an atmosphere about them that can not be dimmed even by the darkest of rooms. My specific choice of paint application, color and composition are all original. They are of my own hand and mind.

I hope my work inspires and engauges your imagination. rjk

One might say I am employing elements of many of my heroic predacessors. The diagonals of Paul Cezanne, the verticals of Clyford Still, and the horizontals of George Morrison. These are compliments all. As I am sure that I am, as well as, other Surrealist and Abstract Expressionist techniques.

I have found that although one can learn much academically about art, art theory, and technique. However, one can not learn to be creative, nor can one learn to be inspired. "One is either creative and inspired or one is not."

At first glance my work might seem familiar. Although I feel that my imagery is unique in the way that I handle spacial relationships, compostion and color. I understand that by employing many universal concepts to create my cohesive compositions my work emcompasses a vast lexicon. My world is a diverse one, where you will find elements of figure, landscape, fractals, crystalline structures, coral and rock formations, clouds, plants, water and more. Using the boundaries and edges of opposing shapes, to create a variety of counterpoints: form - atmosphere, positive - negative, ebb - flow, open - closed, balance - counterbalance, light and shadow.

The tensions that these counterpoints suggest to varying degrees enhance the visual dynamics, define space, delineate form and create a sense of movement ( Life or animation).

Paintings from this series reflect my interpretation of universal forms and systems observed in nature and translated into my personal visual language. The key elements that I am focused on are; the play of light and shadow, positive and negative, surface and atmosphere and the edges that integrate and define them. Please see my artistic statement.

As to my specific choices of paint, paint application, color and composition these conclusions are all original. They are of my own hand and mind. Yet, because I believe that my gift, my talent and my inspiration are Spiritual gifts. Granted to me. I somehow feel driven - guided by other worldly tides or a supernatural being that exists outside of our temporal reality. A "Spirit" greater then oneself.

And so, as I approach my work, I do so with great seriousness, self-reflection, exuberance, and inner-focus. My passion is drives me. My pulse quickens and my true purpose is clear. Each act of creation I experience is a celebration of my gifts. And thus, the resulting art becomes my gift to the world. This is where I draw my breath. And I am alive in the struggle of life.
